Our Partnership Programme

In order to extend the reach of our programmes and to ensure sustainability Action Breaks Silence works with partner NPO’s through our Trainer of Trainers programme whereby ABS trainers teach selected groups of local instructors to deliver the ABS Empowerment through Self-Defence and Hero Empathy workshops in local schools, afterschool clubs and community organisations.

Afrika Tikkun

afrika-tikkunAfrika Tikkun works in five South African communities (Alexandra, Diepsloot, inner-city Johannesburg, Orange farm and Mfuleni). Afrika Tikkun employs 460 staff (the majority of whom come from the target communities) and provides 2500 children with after-school child and youth development programmes and 2000 young people with career and skills development programmes after graduating high school. All school-age children engage weekly with an Empowerment Programme that aims to provide comprehensive human rights education, support the development of self-advocacy groups and the undertaking of self-advocacy campaigns.

The partnership with ABS will see ABS trained facilitators in 5 Afrika Tikkun centres deliver the Empowerment through Self-Defence workshop for women and girls and the Hero Empathy Programme for boys in a joint branded initiative.

ZA Foundation

Za Foundation

Za’s work in South Africa is focused on Nkomazi, a rural region in the north east of the country near the borders with Swaziland and Mozambique. The area has one of the highest rates of HIV in the world (over 40%) and this has had a devastating impact on the lives of young people. Over half of the local population are under the age of 19 (53%) and there are now an estimated 12,000 orphans and vulnerable children living in Nkomazi. The unemployment rate is around 70%.

Working with their partner charity, ThembalethuZa Foundation funds several projects relevant to the needs of the local population focusing on education and practical support as the best way to help young people change their future for the better.

The new partnerships with ABS will see our Empowerment through Self-Defence and Hero Empathy workshops delivered in local after school clubs to help reduce GBV and its effect on the local population.
